A Whitetail Deer's
Sense of Smell Is Its #1 Defense
|
Our products make them defenseless!
Experienced hunters know that the bigger the buck, the
more he will travel into the wind using his best defense - his nose.
Big bucks will avoid any area where they've seen, heard or smelled a
human, or even where a human has been. Hunters have always noticed that
each time they hunt an area again, they see less deer. The major factor
warning deer is residual human scent left behind by clothing, boots,
equipment and hands. Human scent can remain
in your hunting area for days.
Bathing and washing clothes in unscented soap lays the
foundation for controlling human odor. Scent eliminators are the next
step in taking care of this problem, but it is impossible to eliminate
all human odors. The best tactic is a combination of products that eliminate
as much odor as possible, and then to camouflage what's left.
Nature's Essence all-natural
products have proven themselves superior to heavy masking scents and
concentrates. The main drawback of scent concentrates is that they draw
attention to your presence in the field. Strong masking scents smell
unnatural to a deer's keen sense of smell and trigger fear and flight
instincts. Attractant scents and food lures seldom cover human scent.
Urine-based lures only work if there is no human scent present; and
with this and other concentrates, the animal makes the association between
the concentrate odor and the presence of humans. It is impossible to
totally cover your clothing, boots and equipment with droplet-applied
concentrates. This leaves human scent on everything you rub or touch.
The more scent you leave, the less deer you
see.
Why is Essence of Fall so effective?
Although whitetail deer have the ability to distinguish
human scent at more than 500 yards, they will not spook at that distance.
Why?
The parts per million of human scent at 500 yards is a
very small percentage of all that the deer smells. The animal correctly
equates this trace of human scent with relative distance and safety.
Now, imagine the deer approaching to 30 yards. The large percentage
of human scent at 30 yards equates to closeness and danger. The animal
doesn't have to see or hear you, he's just gone.
